Open Letter: The Importance of October and the Ongoing Fight Against Abuse

By Angeles Santana, Founder of Santana Globally We Care

Dear Friends,

October invites us, as it does every year, to pause and reflect on an urgent reality: the abuse and violence that so many people, especially women, suffer in silence. This month, dedicated to raising awareness about violence and abuse, serves not only as a reminder of the challenges we face but also as a collective call to action.

At Santana Globally We Care (SGWC), we understand that the fight against abuse cannot be limited to just one month. Every day, thousands of women and children around the world experience domestic violence, emotional abuse, sexual assault, and social exclusion. Each story is unique, yet they all share a common thread: the pain these wounds leave behind and the urgent need for a helping hand to accompany, listen, and support them on their path to recovery.

October: A Starting Point, Not the Finish Line

October is essential for shedding light on this issue and uniting efforts through campaigns, workshops, and awareness events. However, true transformation happens when our commitment extends beyond the calendar. Victims need continuous support to rebuild their lives, and our mission as a society is to remind them every day of the year that they are not alone and that their story matters.

Turning Pain into Strength

It is in this continuity that hope resides. At SGWC, we have witnessed how the power of education, access to resources, and community support can transform lives. Empowerment and healing do not happen overnight; they are part of a process that requires time, patience, and solidarity. That is why each of our programs focuses on providing not only practical skills but also emotional strength, helping women and children find a way out of the cycle of abuse and build a brighter future.

A Constant Call to Action

At SGWC, we urge individuals, companies, and organizations to keep this fight alive beyond October. Violence doesn’t stop, and neither should our responsibility as agents of change. Every gesture of support, every kind word, and every resource shared can make a difference for someone going through difficult times.

Educate, listen, act, and transform are pillars we must keep alive throughout the year. We cannot afford to take a step back. Awareness and prevention require continuity and collective commitment.

A Future Without Violence Is Possible

I am convinced that a future without violence is possible if we work together. The key lies in consistency, empathy, and determination. It is not enough to raise our voices only in October; we need to keep talking, educating, and helping every day. Together, we can build a fairer society where women, children, and all vulnerable individuals can live with dignity, safety, and hope.

I invite you to join this cause all year long: by sharing messages of support, collaborating with organizations that fight for human rights, and learning how to recognize the signs of abuse. Every action matters and has the potential to save a life.

This October, let’s renew our commitment—but let’s make sure that commitment endures. The fight for a world free of violence is a task for every day.

With hope and gratitude,

Angeles Santana
