My story is not one of a perfect childhood. Growing up in a strict household, I yearned for affection and dreamed of a world where women had a voice. Books became my escape, offering solace in a world where I felt invisible.
This changed at the tender age of 6 when a trusted family friend became my abuser. Fear and isolation became my reality. I learned to bury my pain, longing for the simple love and innocence that every child deserves.
As an adult, I became a successful businesswoman, driven by the desire to help others. However, the trauma of my childhood remained. Blinded by the longing for love, I fell into the trap of a narcissistic manipulator.
He promised everything I wanted, but his affection quickly turned into control. He isolated me, controlled my finances, and even subjected me to physical violence. Shame and fear kept me silent, inventing excuses for his abuse.
Despite the fear, I became a mother. But even motherhood couldn’t break the cycle. He used my children as weapons, blackmailing me and isolating us further. My spirit was broken, my identity stolen.
My journey has been a rollercoaster of emotions, from the depths of despair to the heights of hope. I have lived in the abyss of fear, humiliation, and helplessness. I have seen how darkness can consume light, how fragility can bend under brute force. But I have also witnessed the unbreakable power of the human spirit, the ability to rise from the ashes and rebuild a shattered life.
My story is not unique. Thousands of women around the world share similar pain, trapped in the grip of domestic violence, silenced by fear and shame. They are brave, resilient women who bear invisible scars on their souls.
That is why today I raise my voice, not just as a survivor, but as a warrior. I have created Santana Globally We Care, a refuge for those who have yet to find their way, a beacon of hope in the midst of the storm.
